FRAMINGHAM, MA – DetraPel, Inc., a leading innovator in PFAS-free and fluorine-free protective coatings, is expanding its manufacturing operations with the opening of a 40,000-square-foot facility in Charlotte, North Carolina, with plans to scale to 70,000 square feet by 2027. This expansion will triple the company’s production capacity to 90,000 gallons per day, significantly enhancing its ability to develop and deliver sustainable, non-toxic solutions at scale.
This strategic investment marks a pivotal milestone in DetraPel’s mission to eliminate harmful chemicals from everyday products and accelerate the industry’s transition toward safer, high-performance alternatives. After an extensive evaluation of potential locations across the Southern Belt, Charlotte emerged as the ideal choice due to its robust manufacturing infrastructure, skilled workforce, and strategic proximity to key markets—with nearly 70% of DetraPel’s domestic business concentrated in the southeastern United States.
"DetraPel’s decision to relocate its headquarters and manufacturing operations to our city speaks to Charlotte's dynamic business environment and our healthy ecosystem that welcomes innovation,” said Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles. “As we continue to build a robust, diverse economy, opportunities like this demonstrate why Charlotte is a top city for businesses and why our residents should be optimistic about our city's bright future."
The new facility will be fully vertically integrated and certified under FDA, EPA, ISO, cGMP, and BRCGS standards, ensuring the highest levels of quality control, regulatory compliance, and manufacturing excellence. These expanded capabilities will strengthen DetraPel’s ability to serve a diverse range of industries, including food packaging, healthcare, beauty, consumer packaged goods (CPG), over-the-counter (OTC) pharmaceuticals, home goods, technical textiles, and electronics. The company will continue to advance sustainable solutions under its three distinct brands: Impermea Materials, ProofPlus, and DetraPel Solutions.
“We are thrilled to expand our footprint in Charlotte, a city that offers an exceptional business ecosystem and a deep talent pool,” said David Zamarin, CEO of DetraPel. “This new facility allows us to not only scale production of our high-performance barrier coatings for textiles and packaging but also apply them directly. Additionally, we are broadening our scope to include OTC and cosmetic product manufacturing, further reinforcing our commitment to safer, more environmentally responsible solutions.”
With a tenfold increase in R&D capacity, the facility will enable DetraPel to accelerate innovation, develop next-generation materials, and drive the elimination of PFAS chemicals from the supply chain. By investing in cutting-edge application equipment, the company will offer a full turnkey solution for brands and manufacturers seeking to transition to sustainable materials without compromising performance.
Throughout the transition, DetraPel will maintain seamless operations across all existing partnerships, supplier relationships, and customer engagements. The expanded capacity and specialized capabilities will not only enhance service but also ensure faster turnaround times, greater production flexibility, and increased scalability to meet the evolving demands of its partners. With three dedicated synthesis labs and specialized filling lines for cosmetics, SPF, OTC, and household products, DetraPel is positioned to set a new industry standard for sustainability, performance, and innovation.
The new Charlotte facility is slated to begin operations in late Spring/early Summer 2025, reinforcing DetraPel’s position as a leader in sustainable chemistry innovation while ensuring a smooth transition for its customers and partners.
